Stateless Mind Festivals (2019–2023)
Before Stateless Mind became an ongoing platform, it existed as a series of artist-led festivals in Copenhagen and Venice.
These festivals brought together artists, curators, researchers and communities to explore migration, identity, memory, displacement, diaspora and decolonisation—not as abstract themes, but as lived experiences shaped by movement across cultures and geographies.
More importantly, they created relationships that continued beyond the festivals themselves.
Many of today's Stateless Mind initiatives—including the Pavilion, Stateless House and PACAK—grew directly from these encounters.
The festivals remain an important chapter in the continuing evolution of Stateless Mind.
Festival Editions
Copenhagen
In Copenhagen, the festivals developed through ongoing dialogue and collaboration.
They brought together artists working across geographies, many shaped by migration, displacement, and layered identities.
The emphasis was not on finished works, but on process — on creating situations where ideas could be shared, tested, and transformed.
Venice (2022)
In 2022, Stateless Mind extended into Venice, unfolding alongside the Venice Biennale as part of a satellite event with PORT Perak.
PORT Perak participated in the Biennale under the theme Pera, Flora and Fauna. Within this context, artists from the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia participated in the satellite event under Stateless Mind.
Operating outside national representation, Stateless Mind existed as an alternative presence — one that did not belong to a pavilion, yet moved in proximity to it.
Artists engaged in actions, conversations, and interventions that responded to the environment of the Biennale while remaining independent from its structures.
This moment became a turning point.
The Stateless Mind Festivals (2019–2023)
brought together artists from across geographies and diasporic contexts, forming temporary communities through performance, moving image, and shared encounters.
What remains is not only documentation, but a network of relationships that continues to evolve.
